Fear Free Approach

At New Jersey Mobile Veterinary Services, we strive to make every experience as comfortable and positive as possible for both pets and their owners.

Our practice is fully committed to a low-stress, no-force approach. We do not believe in forcibly restraining or wrestling with patients. Instead, we utilize positive reinforcement methods, such as high-value treats, peanut butter, or other favorite rewards, to provide comfort and distraction during examinations and treatments. In certain cases, when a pet may react to pain (such as with an ear infection), a gentle, well-fitted muzzle may be used—not as a punishment, but as a safety tool to protect both the pet and the veterinary team. Oftentimes, pets will even lick peanut butter or baby food with the muzzle still on!

To help minimize stress, we can recommend administering a mild, safe anti-anxiety medications the evening before and again approximately two hours prior to the scheduled appointment. These medications are not intended to overly sedate your pet, but to gently ease anxiety and allow for a more relaxed, low-stress visit. Dr. Lynn will work with you to select an appropriate starting dose and adjust if necessary based on your pet’s individual needs. These medications will be simply called into your pharmacy for you to pick up prior to your scheduled appointment.

For cats that are fearful, placing them in a bathroom or carrier just prior to our arrival will allow us to safely examine them. We also have cat cozy wraps that make them feel as safe as a swaddled baby if needed! We can have them lick a tasty baby food to distract them from vaccines.
Our goal is to build trust, reduce fear, and help your pet feel as safe and secure as possible during their care, while ensuring the safety of everyone.
